Golfing buddies offer putting greens, synthetic lawns

MYERSVILLE -- Tim Martin and Randy Keller have been friends since high school and golfing buddies for more than 20 years.
When Martin decided to leave State Farm Insurance, he and Keller looked at franchises and found Golf Greens Fore U.
The business squared with their enjoyment of golf and as a viable enterprise for the area.
Now their business, Golf Greens Fore U, installs putting greens and chipping surfaces, both in and outdoors.
"Our putting greens are much different from our competitors in that our surface is only about one-half inch in height," Martin said. "This prevents the grain of the green from laying over and provides a true putting surface in any direction."
Golf Greens Fore U's putting greens have been installed at the Nike Golf Training Facility and Golf Academy Live Show on the Golf Channel.
The business also installs T-line and target greens for golf courses and driving ranges; hybrid grass for lawn replacement and commercial applications; and Olympia Sports Turf for field applications for football, soccer, baseball, lacrosse and other sports.
"Randy and I decided to enter this business due to the continued acceptance of synthetic turf, especially for athletic fields," Martin said. "The product development and engineering over the last 10 years has resulted in a very user-friendly and cost-effective option to the marketplace."
Martin has installed a putting green in his backyard at 6 Deerwoods Court, off U.S. 40.
The green offers prospective clients a chance to see and try out the product. Martin said he works with a local landscaping firm on the excavation work, while he and Keller help with the final installation.
The putting greens can be simple or complex, Martin said.
"When we incorporate our T-Line Driving Turf with a putting green, the customer has a short game practice facility where he or she can chip, flop and bump and run shots around the green, in addition to all kinds of putts," he said. "Coupled with our exclusive Performance Roll technology, our putting greens roll true to the hole from all directions. We also customize the speed of the putting green to whatever a customer desires."
The hybrid lawn product can work at daycare facilities and any application where the cost of running water lines is expensive, such as parking lot islands, Martin said.
